Our Story

Our first ever mixed match squad vs Buckingham – 16th May 2015

First ever team 16th May 2015

Oxford City Lacrosse Club was founded with the aim of bringing the opportunity to play lacrosse to everyone in Oxfordshire

Originally solely a mixed lacrosse side from our founding in 2014 by Sarah Deakin and Sophie Beech, we began life playing at Horspath Athletics Ground as a way for friends to meet up and remain active in the sport we love!

Slowly by surely we increased our numbers under the leadership of Amy Marie Scott and by September 2015 we were able to enter the South West Women’s league alongside our friends at Bath Ladies to form a combined team (“Box City”) and finished a very commendable 5th place in our inaugural season.

With the interest growing in the city club side of the game, we began to increase the number of university postgraduates, and with Dominic Hewitt and David Brucie Morris, the men’s side was also formed in 2016. Initially playing in guest tournaments, Oxford City were a banana skin to every side, and our encouraging performances led us to enter the South England Men’s League in September 2018, finishing 4th in a tough Midlands division.

Meanwhile in 2017, Lizzy Jeffers, Isobel Baugh and Brucie set up the Oxford City Juniors to allow as many children as possible to enjoy the game , and hopefully provide a pipeline of new talent from the city’s schools into our club.

Since these very humble beginnings, we have gone on to increase our numbers, improve our facilities, win a league title, and increase our outreach to even more schools!

We have always been a local community club, and we will always support the growth and development of every lacrosse player in Oxfordshire, please click on the other tabs to find out more, or here to email us.
